A barn was totally destroyed after a fire on Sunday.
The RCMP says it was in the 45,000 block of Homestead Road. Part of the road was closed but later reopened.
According to Brad MacLeod, chief of Salisbury Fire Rescue, says the fire burned through the building quickly.
The crew had just left another fire at the Independent Grocer, and when they arrived, the wind was tearing off the steel sheets of the barn’s roof.
A social media photo showed smoke billowing out of the top of the destroyed roof.
The sides of the barn were also steel, and they needed an excavator to tear a hole in the side for the firefighters to go in and attack it with water.
MacLeod says it was the second fire that day for the department, and they were going nonstop from around 5 a.m. to almost 6 p.m.
That many fires is not common for their community, he said.
“You may have a structure fire once every couple months, so to have two in one day and three in a weekend is quite a bit,” he said.
But they are ready for moments like these.
“We always train for this. We’re always prepared for this. So when the call comes in, instincts kick in and we know what needs to be done.”
He thanked several other nearby fire departments for helping throughout the day and for their great work, including departments from Peticodiac, Elgin, Moncton, Riverview, and Dieppe.
“It was a long day. They’re all taxed. They’re all exhausted, and they did a great job
