The Chief Executive Officer at Enterprise Saint John Steve Carson welcomes the official filing by Trans Canada of its application to get approval from the National Energy Board for the Energy East pipeline.
Carson argues its in the national interest to get this done because the U.S., in a couple of years, will be energy self sufficient so Canada will have to find other markets.
Carson is confident the National Energy Board will approve after weighing all the arguments both pro and con.
He disputes the contention by opponents that the economic benefits of the pipeline have been exaggerated. Carson says the people who do this sort of thing for a living have quantified the economic benefits and there will be more coming that haven’t been quantified.
The Saint John Port Corporation is also supporting the official filing with the National Energy Board to move the project closer to fruition.
