CN Rail and the province are working with the City of Moncton to upgrade a series of culverts along Jonathan Creek that have been deemed inadequate to handle high water events.
Many residents near the creek have suffered from flooding in their homes – especially last December when two months’ worth of rain fell in 24 hours.
Daniel Richards, who lives on MacWilliam Lane in the Jones Lake area, says his family has been hit with floodwaters a number of times.
“Back in 1999, we actually had a total house loss due to the massive damage to the structure,” says Richards.
After rebuilding at the same location, Richards says they had a foot of water in their basement following last December’s historic flooding.
Richards and other residents affected by flooding plan to make a presentation to Moncton City Council at the next public meeting on June 1st.
