This is Mental Health Week across Canada.
Melissa Baxter, a spokesperson for the Canadian Mental Health Association in New Brunswick, says the week provides an opportunity to shine the light on mental illness and the stigma that often surrounds it.
“It gets the conversation going… gets people speaking about their own personal wellness and ways of increasing their quality of life and mental wellness.”
Baxter says it’s often easier to talk about a physical problem such as a broken bone rather than a mental illness.
