This year’s poppy campaign will officially kick off Friday morning at 10-am.
Members of the Royal Canadian Legion visited Moncton City Hall today to pin the first poppy on Mayor George LeBlanc.
Given the recent slayings of two soldiers in Ottawa and Quebec, LeBlanc says it is more important than ever to remember.
“I think people have a heightened sense of appreciation for our military and the work they do. It’s great to recognize that work.”
About 120,000 poppies will be distributed throughout Metro Moncton and they can be found virtually everywhere including stores and malls.
Roughly $90,000 was raised locally last year which goes to support the veterans.
