A new study is suggesting that Metro Moncton is understaffed by police.
The “Police and Crime Rates in Canada” study was conducted by the Fraser Institute and spearheaded by Lakehead University Professor, Livio Di Matteo.
It looked at policing levels, local crime rates and other socio-economic factors and also pulled information from Stats Canada over a 10 year period.
According to the study, while more police can lead to lower crime at some point, increased spending on additional police officers has little impact on crime reduction.
Metro Moncton is not alone when it comes to understaffed departments – Kelowna, B.C. and Quebec City also made the list.
On the flip side, the most overstaffed police stations included Saint John and Winnipeg.
