A local company hosted an emergency preparedness event, in an effort to remind everyone how to avoid the devastation of things like flood or fire.

Members of Nuttall Restoration said they have seen firsthand the devastation that people go through when their homes are damaged by disaster.

New Brunswick Manager of the Insurance Institute of Canada Monique Leblanc says you should always know what is in your insurance policy, in the case, disaster does strike, "Some people, they just look at the better price, and decide to purchase based on the cheapest price, but it's very important to understand what you are covered for and what you are not.  If there's  a chance that your house is in an area where there could be floods, make sure you're covered."

She says you should ask a lot of questions to find out exactly what you are covered for, "Not everyone can take an insurance policy and ready it top to bottom and understand everything that is in it."

Other speakers at the event, included Riverview Fire and Rescue and the Canadian Red Cross.  Both offered tips on how to prevent fires and how to be prepared before a potential disaster happens.
