A new study from the Institute for Research on Public Policy is calling for full and universal coverage of prescription drug costs for all and finance that through personal income taxes.
Researcher Steve Morgan says when drug costs get too high, seniors will pick and choose which they will take with many of them winding up in the hospital which costs the healthcare system even more money.
Morgan argues not having pharmacare means we are paying many times more for generic drugs than we need to and points out Canada is the only country with a universal healthcare system that doesn’t have universal drug coverage.
He also advocates smaller provinces get together to buy drugs in bulk to lower the cost.
