Provincial Auditor-General Kim MacPherson says more has to be done to improve the fiscal health of the province. Even though the deficit is lower than forecast, it means the debt continues to rise.
She points out this was the ninth consecutive deficit in recent years.
MacPherson adds the deficit may have been lower than budgeted for but there were tax increases and government expenses rose.
She’s worried about the long term financial sustainability of the province because the debt is continuing to rise and the trends are unfavourable.
