A program in New Brunswick called Shaping Purpose is aiming to help people who are at a transition point in their lives – and one New Brunswick psychiatrist can attest to the fact that it works.
Dr. Andrew Yuzda, who took part in the program, says he’s going through a transition himself in regards to his career saying he’s been working within the N.B. health system for the last decade. He says he’s been exploring other options and was ambivalent about where he should take things in his career and that the program was instrumental in helping him identify other options for himself and where he might be happiest.
He says health care has typically been behind in terms of being preventative so this program is a unique step in terms of addressing issues proactively to perhaps avoid the onset of crises.
Shaping Purpose is partnering with Horizon Health Network and the NB Health Research Foundation for a mental health research study which will look at two groups: recently retired members of the military and young people aged 14-17.
