About 50 concerned Moncton residents have heard about plans to upgrade culverts along the flood-prone Jonathan Creek.
Last December’s historic flood along portions of the creek was the last straw for many residents living on Westbrook Circle and in the Jones Lake area.
Some residents have seen flooded basements multiple times and many cant get any more insurance coverage.
Moncton’s design and construction director Alcide Richard told the town hall meeting that culvert upgrades will begin downstream in September thanks to a partnership between CN Rail and the city.
The provincial government owns the remaining 10 culverts and is currently working with the city on what is needed to upgrade those.
That could take a few more years and residents say that’s a lot of time for more potential flooding.
