A leading market researcher in Atlantic Canada is painting a grim picture of the regional economy.
Corporate Research Associates CEO Don Mills told a business crowd in Moncton that since the Great Recession in 2009, only three provinces had decent economic growth and all are in the West.
“Things are not good in the country. And if they are not good in the country than you can imagine they are not particularly good in Atlantic Canada because we always trail the country in economic development,” he notes.
Mills says the Atlantic region has to attract more immigrants in order to grow the economy otherwise thousands of jobs will go unfilled in the coming years.
He adds Atlantic Canadians are friendly but have not been especially welcoming when it comes to immigrants.
