The CHU Dumont Foundation officially launched a new fundraiser today.
At an anniversary celebration for the Breast Health Centre, Dr Jocelyne Hebert says they wanted to organize an event a little different than the norm.
This new fundraiser is called the “Electrifying Night Run.”
“We know running is really in, and it reaches all different ages of the population and it’s not specifically for one group or another,” says Dr. Hebert. “You don’t need to be a super athlete to walk 5 kilometres.”
Dr. Hebert says the funds raised will help provide prosthetics and bras to breast cancer patients.
“Some of the bras are there for medical reasons, you want to prevent the swelling to accumulate when they’ve had surgery and we wanted to be able to provide them for the patients, and also helping patients buying their prosthesis,” says Dr. Hebert.
She adds many patients undergoing treatments like surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy are unable to work for a full 12 months.
“Some people do not have insurance, and some of the prosthesis the cost can go up to $300 – $400 dollars,” says Dr. Hebert. “So we may not be able to buy them all but if we can help that’s what we’re aiming.”
The run will take place the night of June 24th, starting at 9 o’clock.
Registration is $30, with online registration available at runningroom.com
