Starting this fall, all laundry currently done at the Georges Dumont hospital, will be sent Saint John to be laundered instead.
The province announced this morning, more than $1.4 million in upgrades will be done at Fundy Linen in Saint John.
Vice President for the Health Division at Service New Brunswick David Dumont says the current Dumont laundry department is in very poor shape, and it would be very costly to do repairs, “By doing renovations at the Fundy Linen in Saint John, volumes of linen will be processed there instead.”
He says, “There will be staff affected, but some will be redistributed to the Depot. Some staff will remain in the internal distribution, and at the end of all of this, there will be three less positions in the operation.”
In addition, the province has also announced $250, 000 for the creation of a linen depot in Moncton. It will offer linen distribution and also a 48 hour emergency linen supply.
