Mayoral candidate Dawn Arnold has declined an invitation to state her position on the old Moncton High this morning.
Invitations were sent out to both Moncton Mayoral candidates, Dawn Arnold and Brian Hicks yesterday, from local businessman and graduate John Staples. They were asked to attend on the front steps of the high school at 11am this morning to make their statements.
Arnold says a member of her team spoke to John Staples yesterday, to find out more about the event, but says they were told he had not organized the event, he had only been asked to send the invitations. She also noted in an email to our newsroom that she was unable to get a clear response as to exactly who organized the event.
Arnold notes she has never declined a request to talk about any community issues, but because of the lack of clarity surrounding this event, she has decided not to participate.
Our newsroom also sent a message to Brian Hicks to find out if he will be attending, and his response was, “Yes, I will be there.”
Candidate Dawn Arnold has also posted a statement on the future of Moncton High on her Facebook account.
