Getting an autism diagnosis for your child, can be very difficult, but there is a centre in Moncton that can help.
Volunteer with the Autism Resource Centre Lori Meunier says many parents will come to them for support, “They get information on different events that are happening and next steps they can take. Sometimes it can be overwhelming when you just receive a diagnosis, but we like to think we a first step in getting you started on the journey.”
Meunier says meeting other parents who are going through the same thing provides a lot of relief as well, “Once you start talking to the other parents, that’s when you can relax a little and chuckle a little, and realise that someone else knwos what that is like. There is a lot of relief that comes from talking to someone who knows what you are going through.”
Many schools also use the services provided by the resource centre to order additional tools they can use in the classroom for students with autism.
