There is extensive smoke, water and fire damage after a fire in a 3 storey apartment building at 40 MacAleese Lane.
The fire broke out at around 4:30 this morning.
Acting Platoon Chief Charlie Melanson says firefighters arrived, the whole back of the building was in flames.
Melanson says they did several thorough searches for pets and tenants They managed to rescue a cat, but unfortunately they found a dog inside who was deceased.
About 20 tenants managed to get out safely. Two required treatment for smoke inhalation and several others were checked at the scene by paramedics.
Fire officials are expected to be on the scene for most of the day trying to determine a cause..
