The Gallant government maintains the merger is not privatization but the New Brunswick Union is not convinced.
That reaction comes after the province announced that Medavie Health Services will be managing Ambulance New Brunswick, the Extra-Mural Program and Tele-Care 811 as a single organization.
Union president Susie Proulx-Daigle says she has concerns about the new integrated system especially for seniors in the Extra-Mural Program.
“At some point our seniors are going to become numbers because it (the contract) is going to be based on performance. That’s what I’m mostly afraid of because each person is different and each service that is required is different and I’m afraid people won’t take the time they need to take with their patients,” she notes.
Proulx-Daigle says the union is also concerned that the union hasn’t yet finalized the transfer agreements for the affected employees and she hopes that will happen soon.
