A 35 year old Nova Scotia RCMP officer killed while trying to assist another motorist is being remembered by his family, friends and other police officers..
RCMP NS identified Constable Francis Deschenes in a statement posted to their Facebook page…
He was an officer with the Northwest Traffic Services Division in Amherst..
Deschenes joined the RCMP in 2004, and was a 12 year veteran of the Force, and was also a member of the Musical Ride. In 2013, he received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal.
A preliminary investigation found that Deschenes had stopped on Highway 2 near Memramcook to help a motorist change a tire…when a utility van collided with his police cruiser and the SUV.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van was treated and hospital and then taken into custody..The investigation is ongoing..
