There’s no cause to be alarmed if you see smoke rising from Base Gagetown over the next few days.
A release from the Base’s public affairs office reports three active fires in the Range and Training Area, particularly in the Hershey Impact Area.
The closest fire is at least three kilometres from the nearest base boundary, while the other two fires are further away from the edges of the Base.
The most active of the fires occupies about 50 hectares.
The flames are being kept at bay with the application of fire breaks, and the use of heavy specialized equipment.
At this time, public affairs officer Stéphanie Duchesne says there is minimal risk to any nearby communities or Department of National Defence propoerty or personnel.
