A group concerned over the proposed redevelopment of the the Moncton High sports field, has launched a petition to show their disapproval..
The proposal is to turn the sports field into a parking lot.
But Leslie Tse, who is a member of the Halls’s Creek community, says this is an unacceptable use of greenspace in our city, “We are already a community threatened by parking lots. Do we really want another giant parking lot in our backyard?”
Their hope is to see 1000 supporters sign their petition.
“We intend to try and present to our City Councillors the concerns that have been raised in the City. In addition to putting your name, you can also put a comment, and a lot of people have said that we need active living spaces, not parking spaces. City Council has already made a commitment to try and reduce the parking in the downtown core. We should be looking forward to alternative forms of transportation and encouraging people to walk, bike and take a bus ,”Tse says.
They’ll present their petition to Moncton City Councillors on November 6th, which is when the rezoning vote will be held.
