The Anglophone East District Education Council will decide on November 21st whether or not Hillcrest School will become part of a new school proposed for Moncton’s west end.
Superintendant Gregg Ingersoll says once Council makes that determination, it will ask the province for a new Bessborough School.
“We will hear in December maybe midwinter on that request if that request is granted or not. If the request is granted then that will start a process that will probably take three or four years before a new school is built,” he says.
If the Council decides not to include Hillcrest in the new school, Ingersoll adds it will remain open.
Two public meetings have been held surrounding the issue and many parents say having a small school would be better than a larger one.
Currently, Hillcrest School has about 166 students and is operating well below its capacity.
