A local MLA is hoping the province can help get the East End pool back on track.
Finance Minister and Moncton South MLA Cathy Rogers says she can empathize with trying to make a budget, because it can be very difficult to try and get all of the priorities in, but she would like to help, “I have been willing to be part of that project from day one, and I think it was a couple of years ago that we talked about this. When the city is ready, I would like to, as a province, work with the city to do this for the residents.”
On Friday, Moncton City Council announced during budget deliberations that the opening of the pool would be delayed until 2019.
Rogers says, “I know the residents are disappointed because they have been looking forward to this. I would like to see this go ahead, and I am hoping we are seeing small delays and that we can work together to do this.”
Director of Recreation and Leisure Jocelyn Cohoon says the cost of the project has ballooned from one million to over two million dollars, due to soil stability issues.
