60 witnesses appeared before the inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls over 3 days in Nova Scotia. Agnes Gould’s sister, Victoria Sue Pictou, disappeared in 1993 after leaving a hospital in Maine. The family believes she was murdered.
Gould says she left behind five children with their father who was violent. She says the children were abused and had cigarette burns on their backs and buttocks.
Pictou went to the hospital after being beaten by her husband and brother-in-law in Bangor.
Robert Pictou, who’s a 78 year old Mi-kmaq elder says he was taken away from his family and sent to a residential school when just six years of age and couldn’t even tell the time when he left at the age of 15.
