Every year at this time, Bessborough School principal Nick Mattatall dresses up in a turkey suit and leads his 500-plus students with turkeys in tow from the school to the St. George Boulevard Fire Station.

It’s called the Turkey Trot and this year students donated 198 turkeys to the Sue Stultz and Moncton Firefighters Turkey Drive.
Mattatall says teachers and parents also help out and they have a corporate sponsor.
“We have McInnes Cooper. They gave us $1620, so that’s a huge part of it. Then the kids do PJ days, hat days, popcorn days and there are kids that bring in donations. There’s all kinds of things that happen,” Mattatall notes.
Moncton Firefighter Chris Jackson – who attended Bessborough School growing up – adds it’s a truly heartwarming event to see so many students marching down the hill carrying frozen turkeys in what has become a community event.
