To help combat the growing use of opiods such as fentanyl, the province will be distributing 2,500 naloxone kits through organizations including AIDS Moncton and its needle exchange program.
Naloxone temporarily reverses overdoses caused by opioid drugs.
AIDS Moncton executive director Debby Warren says while some front-line workers have received training, more details are needed before a rollout.
“So for example, we serve close to 700 people. So it’s about how do we reach them, how do we provide training… you know a lot of logistics to work out,” she notes.
Warren says Organigram also made a monetary donation recently to help AIDS Moncton purchase 500 naloxone kits.
