We’ve been getting a taste of winter in recent weeks but the season officially arrives in New Brunswick on Thursday afternoon.
The winter solstice starts at 12:28pm which makes December 21st the shortest day of the year in Greater Moncton at 8 hours and 37 minutes.
Weather Network meteorologist Michael Carter says it will certainly feel like winter.
“With high temperatures stuck deep in negative territory but we are going to have plenty of sun around… which is not going to be the case for the rest of the week and into the weekend and even heading into Christmas,” he notes.
Carter says a storm system on Saturday will bring snow, possibly ice and then a changeover to rain but Christmas Day will be colder with periods of snow expected.
