In light of criticism of too much secrecy in the deaths of children in the province, the provincial government has announced a new process to be more transparent in reviewing and reporting child deaths. Integrity Commissioner Alexandre Deschenes says they tried to strike a balance between the public’s right to know and privacy.
Brief summaries of the circumstances of the child’s death will be released along with recommendations. The summaries will provide more information to the public such as the child’s age aas well as the cause and circumstances surrounding their death.
The Office of the Chief Coroner will release an annual report summarising the work done by the Child Death Review Committee.
