Affordable housing for Moncton is top of mind for the Mayor for the coming year.
Dawn Arnold is very hopeful that our city will be able to provide the affordable housing in the community that so many citizens need, “We did a study this past year, to really do an assessment of what is available and where the gaps are. In 2018, the federal government is providing a lot of affordable housing money that will be trickled down through the province and then to the municipalities. I am hopeful that through this gaps analysis that we have done, that Moncton will be able to get some of that and provide the affordable housing that so many citizens need.”
She is hoping in the coming year, the city can work with the private sector, public sector and community leaders to see how they can address some of those core issues.
“We’re putting a lot of bandaids on a lot of problems and we’re not really digging down to where they are really coming from. Having safe and secure housing is a very fundamental issue in our community and we need to figure this out,” Arnold says.
