The Gallant government announced today a new 190 bed nursing home will be built in Shediac.
It’s replacing the Villa Providence, a facility of the same size, as part of the government’s five year plan to add more than one thousand nursing home beds around the province.
Seniors and Long Term Care Minister Lisa Harris says the new building will be built by the winner of a competitive bidding process.
She adds whoever wins will have to maintain existing collective agreements and associated benefits for current employees.
The government has already announced the creation of five new 60 bed nursing homes across the province, in Moncton, Saint John, Cocagne, Florenceville-Bristol and the Acadian Peninsula.
Since February 1st, the province has also announced $5.3 million of renovations at nursing homes in Saint Antoine and Port Elgin.
