The maple sugar season has arrived a bit earlier than usual in Southeast New Brunswick this year.
The City of Moncton is once again preparing to open its own sugar camp at Turtle Creek.
Coordinator Heather Fraser says current conditions could be ideal for the sap to run.
“We still probably have less than a foot of snow in the woods here in Turtle Creek. Not much snow but a lot of water and ice around so that may help keep our roots a little cold a little longer to get us hopefully a good season this year.”
Fraser adds the infrastructure is in good shape with little damage from critters such as bears, deer and squirrels after a relatively mild winter.
The City of Moncton Maple Sugar Camp will be open in time for March Break.
