Another jobs announcement was made by TD Bank in Moncton today, that will bring an additional 440 employment opportunities to the province.
Deputy Chair for TD Bank Group Frank McKenna says these are skilled jobs in the financial industry, “People that have Chartered Accountant credentials or finance degrees from Universities or Colleges. Almost all of these jobs will be filled by people in this community or by New Brunswickers coming back home. “
This bring the total number of jobs from TD for Greater Moncton to 1015. In May last year, they announced the creation of up to 575 customer service focused jobs.
Recruitment for both the finance operation and customer service jobs will begin by September this year and the office is expected to open by January 2019.
This announcement comes as great news for the CF Champlain Mall.
This new TD Finance Operations Centre will occupy the roughly 110, 000 square foot space left vacant when Sears went out of business.
Senior Vice-President of Development with Cadillac Fairview Brian Salpeter says work is currently underway, “We are working with our General Contractor Ellis Don, but Cadillac Fairview is leading the project as a developer, so we are in charge of developing the space and transforming it for TD.”
McKenna says, “We have to invest in fixtures, and electronics and computers and work stations and back up generators, all of those things. A massive amount of money is being invested. As we speak money is being spent, in the millions.”
To support the creation of the centre and the jobs, TD is eligible for an 8.8 million dollar investment from Opportunities NB, in the form of a forgivable loan.
Salpeter says Cadillac Fairview has been in discussions with TD since the late fall.
“Great things are happening here in New Brunswick,” said Stephen Lund, CEO of Opportunities NB. “TD is another example of a global leader choosing this province. Opportunities NB is proud to work with TD as we continue to build a strong financial services sector.”
