The Honourable J.C. Marc Richard has been appointed to the position of Chief Justice of New Brunswick.
In making the announcement, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau noted his ability to apply the law in a way that is both principled and thoughtful throughout his judicial career.
Born in Moncton with an Acadian background, Richard has served as a judge of the New Brunswick Court of Appeal for 15 years.
He replaces the Honourable J. Ernest Drapeau who chose semi-retirement and will serve as a judge on a part-time basis.
