A Maugerville man, who has been the face of the flooding for national media found out just how low people can get on Sunday.
Markus Harvey is one of many along the St. John River dealing with flooding and he was targeted by would-be thieves early Sunday morning who woke him up around 5 am.
“Thirty seconds after that I noticed flashlight beams heading up the stairs to my bedroom so I yelled out, Hello and yell out you need to evacuate and I heard them scurrying so I jumped out of bed and said why the expletive do I need to evacuate, and they ran out the back door just like rats,” says Harvey.
Harvey managed to get a photo of the three men fleeing in a canoe which he relayed to the authorities and they made an arrest about two hours later.
“When you have people facing hundreds of thousands or millions in losses and for them to be going through that at this point and time and to hear that this is happening I am sure is also disheartening to them,” Harvey said.
