A focus will be put on youth and mental health tonight at Bernice MacNaughton High School.
The 8th annual Mental Health Symposium, that is hosted by the Anglophone East School District, involves student mental health groups from eight area high schools.
Acting Community Engagement Coordinator Heather Stordy says this year the students requested to have their voice heard, “This comes from the project work that is being done in schools based from the Mental Health Summit that is happens in the fall. Students have been working away on their project work and further educating their peers about positive mental health and prevention. The youth came up with the questions that they wanted to ask the mental health professionals on stage. It will an opportunity to hear about what is bubbling up and to hear about the resources in the community.”
Kiosks have been set up and mental health professionals will also be available.
“It is really youth led. We listen to them and what is important to them. We have seen a change in issues this year. For example, last year we focused on sleep and social media. This year, we’re hearing things about health relationships, gender identity and addictions.”
The public is invited to attend from 6 to 8:30 tonight at Bernice MacNaughton High School.
