The May long weekend is traditionally known as the kickoff to the camping season.
RV’s, tents and trailers are expected to start arriving today at campgrounds across the province.
Kirk Sutherland is Co-Owner at Ponderosa Pines, which is located in Lower Cape. He says they’ve already seen campers this season visiting from other countries, “We opened May 1st, and we have had some Canadians and Americans, mostly Europeans. This weekend we’re expecting quite a few from the local area. Some of them arrived yesterday, and we’re expecting a few today and a few more on Saturday. We’re expecting a good run, but we always have room for an extra person or two.” “
One of the big attractions is Hopewell Rocks, and Ponderosa Pines is the closest campground to the popular tourist attraction.
Sutherland says, “I would say that sure helps us. Our business includes campers from Ontario and Quebec and Americans. The Europeans, we have a mix of German, Switzerland and Holland.”
