A new animal shelter for the Greater Moncton SPCA will have added benefits and a healthier environment for both staff and animals according to the executive director.
Dave Rogers says staff will no longer have to walk dogs through the building to access their run area which can be dangerous if some animals are aggressive.
“It will just be a matter of pulling a lever and a door will open and they can go through a separate entrance into their own outside run. So it will be much more convenient for staff,” he notes.
Rogers says cats will have twice the amount of kennel space which will divided into two areas.
He adds an air exchange system will also help prevent the spread of diseases between animals and staff.
Construction of the new shelter is expected to start next spring.
