Two people have died after a raft overturned in the Miramichi River in Gray Rapids, which is about halfway between Blackville and Renous.
The RCMP say just after 4pm on Tuesday police responded to a report of eight people in a raft that overturned. Six of these people were able to make it to shore on their own.
A 29-year-old woman from White Rapids was pulled from the water, given CPR then taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead. RCMP say her cause of death is drowning.
The body of a 55-year-old man, also from White Rapids, was found in the water and an autopsy is going to be done to confirm his exact cause of death.
The RCMP is investigating.
