A free travelling service is moving from community to community teaching children and youth hands-on coding skills.
Known as the Code Mobile, the cargo vans are equipped with the technology to offer pop-up workshops.
Moncton Code Mobile spokesperson Steve Dawson says kids can build their own video games, make digital art and create storytelling-type projects.
“We usually use a program called Scratch which is a free program. They can actually download it when we are done so they can keep on coding after we leave. We also do pop-ups at festivals and parks. We also have robots called Dash and Dot,” he notes.
Dawson says the Code Mobile visits schools, summer camps and youth clubs in communities across New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
Thirteen Code Mobiles operate year-round across Canada and are being funded through the federal government’s CanCode initiative.
Dawson says they plan to be in Moncton and Hanwell during the week of July 23rd.
