Another slap in the face is how one Moncton City Councillor is describing the revelation the East End Pool will be at most one metre – or 3.2 feet – deep.
Shawn Crossman says this new pool was supposed to replace a previous pool which had a five or six foot deep end.
He was asked if anything could be done since work has already started.
“The question has been posed to city staff, [and] at this point I honestly don’t think that city staff are prepared to halt the project, to make the changes that are necessary, that are coming from the community, and elected officials,” says Crossman. “I think this is probably a done deal.”
Crossman says neither he, nor any of the councillors he has spoken to were aware of the new pool’s depth despite approving the project at a council meeting on July 16th.
He says he asked several of his colleagues whether they knew about this depth, and “nobody was informed of the one metre during that meeting, or at any point during this entire process was one metre ever brought back to council for discussion.”
Meanwhile, the City of Moncton has posted some information for clarification on their facebook page.
