The Department of Environment is reviewing a report submitted by Irving Oil into last Monday’s explosion at its Saint John refinery.
In an emailed statement to our newsroom, department spokesperson Anthony Doiron said the “detailed emergency report” was submitted last Friday.
“The Detailed Emergency Report contains information on the problem that occurred, its impact, what was done to minimize the impact and what was done to prevent recurrence of the problem,” Doiron said on Tuesday.
“The Department is in the process of reviewing the Detailed Emergency Report to determine if there were any non-compliance issues with the Approval to Operate.”
Report will be made public
Irving Oil was required to submit the report to the province within five days of the incident as part of their Approval to Operate.
Doiron said the report will be made public once their review is complete, but noted it is too early to say how long it will take.
Candice MacLean, a spokesperson for Irving, provided the following emailed statement to our newsroom when we inquired about when the report would be released.
“We continue to co-operate fully with all the appropriate authorities in relation to the investigation into the October 8 incident at our Saint John refinery. We thank all members of the teams who have worked in response to this incident and our community members for their support.”
