Repairs will need to be done at the Sports Rock restaurant on Paul Street, after a fire earlier today.
Dieppe Fire District Chief Marc Cormier says they arrived on scene at around 9am Tuesday morning, after reports of a fire in the strip plaza, “It was challenging because it was inside the ventilation unit. The smoke and fire travelled the direction of the ventilation. With evidence of the fire location, we were able to open the ceiling and extinguish the fire.”
Cormier says there is significant smoke and water damage, with fire damage confined inside the ceiling above the Sports Rock.
The District Chief says, “There was approximately 40 people in the building. Many of them were on the second floor. Unfortunately, firefighters had to demand the people evacuate, but people should be automatically evacuating the building when there is an alarm.”
Cormier says there were no reports of any injuries.
According to a post on the Sports Rock Facebook page, the Dieppe location is closed today.
