The bombshell last week by Worksafe NB that assessment rates for 2019 would on average be $2.92 per $100 payroll is not sitting well with a lot of groups.
One of them is the Cities of NB Association, Chair, Miramichi Mayor Adam Lordon is confident the province will adopt some of the 28 recommendations from the Worksafe NB task force.
“Premier Higgs has mentioned that he’ll look to bring in some solutions before Christmas and have rates come back down by mid next year, so that is promising,” stated Lordon.
Lordon says “quite frankly it’s broken and needs to be addressed, this kind of a rate increase is not sustainable for our cities, the provinces businesses or small business as well.”
Although Miramichi ss looking at an increase of $125,000 on its operating expenses from this increase Lordon says “Saint John, Fredericton and Moncton are looking at a million dollars on their operating expenses for 2019”.
