About 100 former and current students of Riverview High School and their parents rallied outside the Chocolate River Station Friday evening.
The school’s former principal, Jason Reath, is set to come back in the fall, but parents and students want the current principal, Gary Wilson to stay.
Jason Bowie is the parent of a student who hopes to maintain the positive momentum set by Wilson’s leadership during his two year term.
Bowie says there are several projects that have been created in the last two years that didn’t exist before.
He says Wilson has empowered staff and students and created a real sense of community.
Lisa Stutt is also a parent who says she’s seen her son, Spencer Boudreau thrive under Wilson’s leadership.
“We don’t always have an easy opportunity to reach teenage boys these days and Mr. Wilson has really done a remarkable job in affecting them in a very positive way providing strong leadership and role model to work hard and be the best they can be,” she says.
Boudreau, who was also at the rally says although he won’t be returning to Riverview High next year, he wants future students to have the same experience.
The Rally was organized by a group of parents who noticed the difference Wilson made.
They hope to have their message heard before the school year comes to an end.
