Vanessa and her husband Kevin Mazerolle noticed a lack of resources for children with learning disabilities in the public school system.
They have offered tutoring services for a number of years and are now gearing up to open their own private institution.
“I know that Riverbend school has an awesome program and people were telling us ‘well we need something like this in French’ so we decided to just go ahead,” says Vanessa.
L’institut Apprenti-sage is set to welcome it’s first students in September.
It offers a number of tailored programs for French-speaking kids between the ages of 5 and 15.
Their goal is to help students excel in and out of school by focusing on their strengths while improving upon their weaknesses.
“We don’t do any evaluations. We’re not going to put them in a mold like they do in school where everyone has to be at a certain point at the end of the school year, we go by where they are at and help them progress from there,” says Vanessa.
They will also have after school tutoring services where they will pick the kids right up from school.
Vanessa says tutoring services for French immersion students are available.
Registrations are limited but a few spots are still available for the start of classes.
The school will be set up in a large, newly renovated space at 1080 Champlain st.
An open house will be held on August 18 and the 25, from 2 to 4.
