If you spot a discarded needle anywhere in the city, there is a safe way to dispose of it.
The City of Moncton has entered a partnership with a group to offer a needle pick-up service.
Denise Ouellette, volunteer organizer with Needle Awareness says they can be reached anytime through their Facebook page.
They then safely dispose of the needles, mainly at two fire stations that have designated bins.
Previously, the city would have 24 hours to go pick up any needle that was reported.
Ouellette says they also didn’t do private properties.
The City of Moncton has given the group 15 hundred dollars to help volunteers with the cost of gas for the pick-ups.
Should you feel comfortable disposing of the needle yourself, we encourage you to take appropriate measures per the attached ensemble Moncton brochure.
If you choose to dispose of needle yourself, do not place it in a regular garbage bin as it can be hazardous for garbage collectors. Here are the locations where needles can be disposed:
- Ensemble Moncton (80 Weldon Street)
- Botsford Fire Station (229 Botsford Street)
- St. George Fire Station (800 St. George Boulevard)
- Corner of Queen Street and Lutz Street

- Sommet Park (Botsford Street side)
