Many trailer owners at Gagnon Beach campground in Grand Barachois, have a mess to cleanup before the end of the season, thanks to post tropical storm Dorian.
Kendall Claridge says he got the call Saturday night at around 11:30, “The Owners of the campground called us and told us we had to move our camper because the dunes had washed away, and the water was coming up. By the time we got there, the water was between my ankle and my knee deep. We were able to pull it out and move it to higher ground, but some people weren’t so lucky.”
Claridge says many of the decks washed away, along with other furniture.
“There were three or four, will have to go through insurance because they did get flooded. Some of them sunk in and moved with the wind as well. One person at the end lost his car as well. It stalled and flooded and stayed underwater for most of the night until the water went back down.” Claridge says.
Gagnon Beach campground fared better than others though. Up the road at Sandy Beach, some of the trailer owners had to be rescued by boat.
