Conservative candidate for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe Sylvie Godin-Charest is from Dieppe and has lived there for the past 23 years. She is originally from the Bathurst area. She went to Law school at U de M, and has worked as a Lawyer for over 20 years, “I have always loved politics. I studied in Political Science prior to studying at Law School. I was also involved in provincial politics locally, while I was a university student.”
She says she has heard from thousands of residents since she began campaigning.
“We have knocked on over 24, 035 doors. We have been door knocking since April. It was the best way to do it, and I was so pleased to see the reaction we had,” Godin-Charest says.
She says some of the main concerns she heard from residents were about financial issues, for the future , “What people told me is they have a hard time getting ahead. They are concerned about saving up for their children’s education, and they don’t see how they are going to be able to do that. They also don’t know how they will save for retirement,” Godin-Charest says.
She says public safety and homelessness are other issues she plans to focus on if elected, “I found that as the campaign progressed, those were some of the issues we were hearing. People are concerned about the tent city, and what they saw and the growing homelessness issue. Some people are afraid to be in their home, or even let their children go to park.”
She says we need to find a solution for this, “I would like to establish an Emergency Task Force, involving all three levels of government, and local stakeholders and RCMP. It will be a process, but it is getting out of hand and it is affecting people, the homeless, residents and business owners. It has a big impact on a lot of people, ” Godin-Charest says.
Canadians will head to the polls on Monday, October 21
