A panel touched on a number of relevant subjects like why the issue exists and tangible solutions.
Lisa Ryan, with the Greater Moncton Homelessness Steering Committee says she was pleased with the turn out.
“There was a lot of good conversation and good dialogue and I hope the take-away is that people still continue to have this conversation and understand, on a deeper level, the complexity of homelessness and how we can all be part of the solution,” she says.
Joanne Murray with the John Howard Society hopes it encourages residents to continue the conversation.
“I think we presented some really tangible ways that people can get involved on all levels and I feel like maybe we’ve gained some support from the business community and that’s going to be really important for us moving forward,” she says.
Murray says support from the business community is crucial to help secure housing for homeless or at risk individuals.
It also came to light last night that the Canadian government passed a law that recognizes that housing is a fundamental right.
Nadine Duguay-Lemay of Dialogue NB was last night’s Moderator.
A donation of over $2500 was also awarded to the Greater Moncton Homelessness steering committee.
Funds were raised during the evening and additional donations came from a local grade 6 class and Rotary Resurgo.
