A restaurant chain that offers wood-fired traditional pizza, is closing.
According to a Facebook post from Piatto Pizzeria on Main Street will shutdown on February 2.
“We have enjoyed six great years working with the team, the community and many great partners and as our lease draws to an end we are going to explore other opportunities,” owner Kate Vallis said in an e-mail.
She says the building’s owners have been supportive during Piatto’s time there.
“Again, we want to thank our team, our customers and our partners, including our landlord for all the support we have enjoyed over the last six years.”
Piatto’s team of 12 in Moncton will be missed, Vallis said, adding that efforts to relocate them are ongoing.
“We are working with our team with the hopes of relocating as many of them as possible to other Piatto locations or to help them find work with our network of colleagues in Moncton,” she said in the e-mail. “We have been so lucky to have a great team and they all would be welcome back any time an opportunity arises.”
For now, there are no plans to re-open in Moncton. But Vallis says the company is “always looking for opportunities in Atlantic Canada and will consider each one as they arise as we look forward to growing the Piatto brand.”
Piatto Pizzeria and Enoteca is owned and operated by the St. John’s-based Vallis family. Since the first location opened there in 2010, the restaurant has added five more, including ones in Moncton, Charlottetown, Halifax, and Cambridge, Ont.
Besides pizza, Piatto’s menu also includes other Italian classics like pasta, gnocchi and arancini, as well as alcoholic beverages, desserts and coffee.
